Glasgow School of Art Students’ Association commits to The Palestinian Campaigns for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI).
As a student-led arts organisation, we call for a Permanent Ceasefire Now; the end to the siege and occupation of Gaza; and a Free Palestine.
At GSASA we aim to actively support and embed decolonisation, anti-racism, and accessibility within the arts education at our core. We will continue to make spaces, educational, and arts events, that centre Palestinian voices. We will continue to create a safe space at the Students’ Association that will not be complicit in, nor accept, acts of islamophobia, antisemitism, and other forms of racism. We will continue to build our resources list and to engage with students at GSA as we do so.
As Arika so aptly write in their pledge: “Contributing to the collective struggle against systemic injustice is both our responsibility and a source of joy”.
As the Palestinian people have asked of us all, it is the responsibility of arts organisations and artists in Scotland to hold our sector and our communities to account. Thus, we will continue to support students calling on GSA to break their silence and make a public statement of solidarity with Palestine.
More about PACBI:
The Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI) was initiated in 2004 to contribute to the struggle for Palestinian freedom, justice, and equality.
It advocates for a boycott of Israeli academic and cultural institutions for their deep and persistent complicity in Israel’s denial of Palestinian rights that are stipulated in international law.
Our thanks to the ongoing activism and resources created by Artworkers For Palestine Scotland and so many others. We encourage other cultural organisations, institutions, charities, and projects to make similar commitments.
ALT TEXT:
The image features a hand-drawn illustration in coloured pencil with floral elements and text. At the top, a purple tulip and a pink poppy bloom are connected by a vine. Written in capital green letters, the text states, "AS A CULTURAL ORGANISATION IN SCOTLAND WE PLEDGE TO SUPPORT." The central focus is the word "PACBI," rendered in bold red letters intertwined with green floral patterns. Below this, the text in green continues, "THE PALESTINIAN CAMPAIGN FOR THE ACADEMIC AND CULTURAL BOYCOTT OF ISRAEL." The bottom of the image showcases a detailed pink flower on the left and a red tulip-like flower bending towards the bottom right. The artwork carries an artisanal touch and communicates a pledge to support a specific political and social initiative.
