Purpose of Teaching Awards
The GSA Students’ Association & GSA Teaching Awards are running for the third consecutive year. They are designed to recognise the contributions of staff and students to the student experience at GSA; as well as the ways in which staff and students support learning and community across the school.
The Teaching Awards aim to gain insight into excellent learning and teaching practices at GSA from a student perspective; and to celebrate staff and students who go above and beyond to support and improve student learning and to develop our community at GSA.
Award Categories:
The Commissions
We are announcing two open calls for commissions this year:
Prize Commission:
- Design and create eight prizes for award winners.
- Fee: £1000, plus up to £500 for materials and workshop expenses budget.
Certificate Commission:
- Design certificates for shortlisted nominees.
- Certificates must leave space for names to be handwritten ahead of the ceremony.
- Fee: £100, with up to £100 allocated for printing cost.
Eligibility
The Commissions are open to UK-based graduates from the 2020-2023 graduating cohort.
The commission fee is paid on a freelance contractor basis. This means you must be registered as self-employed, or willing and able to register as self-employed to be paid. If you have your own company, we can also pay you through that if you have one set up. Advice about registering yourself as self-employed and tax self-assessment is available from the HMRC website.
Unfortunately, this means that if you are on a Tier 4 or Student Visa, you cannot apply for this commission. The reason for this is that because of UK Government rules, under the terms of your visa, you cannot register as self-employed.
Application Details
For further information on the specific requirements for the prizes and certificates, please refer to the detailed application form.
The deadline for applications is Friday 23rd February at 5pm. Applications should be sent to gsasa@gsa.ac.uk. The awards ceremony will take place in June, with final versions of the prizes and certificates to be completed by Monday 6th May 2024 at 5pm.
