Societies Panel Elections for the Societies Committee 2026 - 2027

 

Key Dates

  • Nominations open: 11:00am, 5 October
  • Nominations close: 4:00pm, 12 October
  • Voting opens: 10:00am, 13 October
  • Voting closes: 4:00pm, 20 October

 

What is the Societies Committee?

This is a monthly meeting/forum that:

  • Reviews funding requests from societies and sports clubs.
  • Votes on fair allocation of a limited fund.
  • Oversees shared resources and equipment.
  • Ratifies and receives updates on new society affiliations
  • Helps ensure student-led society activity on campus

For 2026/2027 the Societies Committee meetings and membership comprises of:

The Student President, and the Vice President of Education (voting members)

2 Student Representative Council (SRC) members (voting members)

6 Student Panel members - elected from Society Leaders/Committee members on campus (non-voting members)

 

Available Positions within this election and Eligibility

There are 6 Student Panel Member positions available.

Eligibility to stand:

  • Current society leaders or committee members of affiliated societies.

Role:

  • Non-voting members of the Societies Committee.
  • Provide insight, experience, and feedback to help ensure fair and informed decisions.

 

How to Nominate Yourself

Email the Societies Coordinator L.Rabemananjara@gsa.ac.uk during the nomination period 11:00am, 5 October to 4:00pm, 12 October. Nominations sent after this deadline cannot be accepted.

  1. Your full name (for the ballot)
  2. A statement of up to 250 words explaining:
    • Why you should be elected.
    • Your interest in the role.
    • Relevant experience and credentials.

 

How Candidates Are Elected

  • If more than six people stand for the six available roles, candidates are elected by a simple majority vote.

 

Voting Eligibility

Voting is open to student leaders and committee members of affiliated GSASA societies, including:

  • Presidents/Chairs
  • Treasurers
  • Welfare Officers
  • Other committee members
